Children's Acting Workshops
Our unique approach to teaching children how to act is a blend of theory and real life experience. Students have the opportunity to learn the basic and advanced skills of theater while rehearsing for a show. This way, everything they learn comes together.
Our class structure is simple, we begin with theater games and warm-ups, followed by a 15-minute instructional period, and then we rehearse the show. Students are fully costumed in our shows, although we do not provide all the costumes ourselves. The actors are responsible for some of that, leaving room for creativity.
Each workshop is 10 weeks long, featuring 9 weeks of instruction with the performance on the final weekend. Workshops are usually Saturday mornings in the Winter time. Occasionally, we will feature a Fall or Summer Workshop. We also currently hold them either annually or bi-annually.
Our next children's acting workshop will be J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan! Your children will have a blast portraying the classic character's created by Mr. Barrie. Whether they play Peter, Wendy, Captain Hook, Smee, or even the crocodile, your children will have the chance to learn theater by doing it!
Workshop dates for J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan! are below:
Saturdays, January 11, 2020-March 28, 2020.
Class Time: 11 AM-2 PM, January 11th-March 21st (with two weeks off in February for Winter Break)
Class Time: 1 PM-3 PM on March 28th
Performance: Saturday, March 28th @ 3 PM.
Venue: 123 High St., Dedham, MA. The Motherbrook Arts & Community Center.
Tuition: $155 per student or $245 for two students.
Age Range: Students between the ages of 8 and 13 are allowed to enroll for this show. Students under the age of 8 may be taken on a case-by-case basis providing they are either 7 or 6 1/2. Children under the age of 8 will not be cast in a large speaking role, but will be a supportive character so that they are built up for success. Our aim at YFE is to enhance learning regardless of age, but we also have the desire to see all of our students built up for success so that their learning is not hindered.
