YFE Theater on the Air
In December 2023, YFE experimented with producing staged radio plays, essentially a live reading with accompanying sound effects. This model served as the basis to YFE Theater on the Air, a repertory group we created in 2024 which tours senior centers and nursing homes within the Greater-Boston Area. Our mission is to bring joy to our senior community, as they have given us so much. YFE Theater on the Air generally produces these shows free of charge, as we understand that many nursing homes and senior centers do not always have recreational funds to house us.
Understanding that our senior centers and nursing homes have set times for recreation, our staged radio plays are purposely one hour in length and often do not go past the 58-minute mark. Our YFE Theater on the Air group often spends many hours reading through our radio plays to ensure that our radio plays aren't simply an hour long, but qualitative and uplifting.
YFE Theater on the Air has produced A Christmas Carol: The Staged Radio Play, It's a Wonderful Life: The 1948 Lux Radio Play, Pygmalion: The Staged Radio Play at various senior centers and nursing homes over the last two years. Recently, we added Orson Welles' radio play The Infamous Sherlock Holmes to our repertory and will be performing it throughout 2026.
